Summary: We want you to get the most out of your first round at SentryWorld. Here are some tips to navigate the holes that have tricky fallout slopes.

If it's your first time playing the SentryWorld golf course, welcome! We encourage you to take a virtual tour of all 18 holes ahead of time to get a feel for this pristine parkland course. In addition, here are some tips to prepare you for your inaugural round—specifically a few tricky greens.

The beauty of our course setup is that it’s all right out in front of you. You can see where your target is. You can see where the fairway is, where the green is. We have a few slight doglegs, but there's nothing blind or hidden.

However, there are a few fallout slopes to be aware of.

SentryWorld holes with fallout slopes

A fallout slope is an area where you might hit the ball onto one side of the green and that green starts sloping down off to the side. The ball might roll away, roll down off of the green—sometimes a frustrating 10-15 yards away from the green.

A few holes to be mindful of: The right side of hole 3 and hole 8, and the left side of hole 15.

You can usually see those slopes if you're looking for them, but it’s something to be conscious of as you're playing the course. With the firm and fast conditions that we tend to keep here, it's pretty easy for that ball to get rolling down one of those slopes and get to somewhere you don't want to be.

Hole 2 is surprisingly tough

I’d have to say the most challenging hole on the golf course is our second hole. It’s a par-4, but it's pretty long by par-4 standards. And when you're hitting your tee shot, you really don't have a place you can safely miss. That's what makes it so challenging.

There's a penalty area on your right and one on your left. So you really have no choice but to hit a good, straight drive—and you can't really hit less than a driver, because of the hole’s length.

Another challenging element is the fact that it's early in the round, so you're not sure yet which way the ball tends to go. It can be a little nerve-wracking to be on that tee, forced to hit a straight shot. So, it's a really good test right out of the gate.

"There’s trouble on the left, trouble on the right (on hole 2). Do whatever you can to get the ball in the fairway off the tee."

Mark Rolfing, TV golf commentator
