Mike James, PGA
Mike joined the Sentry team as general manager of SentryWorld in May 2014. In this position, Mike will oversee Sentry’s entire hospitality operation, including SentryWorld golf, dining, weddings, banquets, events and recreational activities, plus Sentry’s @1800 restaurant, lounge, gallery and theater. Mike brings extensive experience in golf, recreational and resort management and joins SentryWorld after most recently serving as resort manager of The Resort at Glade Springs in Daniels, West Virginia—sister resort to The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. With more than 20 years of experience working for leading companies such as the Ritz-Carlton and renowned country clubs in the eastern U.S., Mike is primed and ready to take the reimagined SentryWorld to the next level.
As an active member and long-time resident of the community, Tawnya has enjoyed attending and planning events at SentryWorld, @1800 and Sentry's Theater. When the role of Sales Manager for the newly reimagined SentryWorld was announced, she was excited about the opportunity to be a part of the exciting relaunch of an already reputable and successful golf course, banquet facility and restaurant. She brings more than 15 years of professional experience in television production and sales, corporate health care, small business, non-profit, entrepreneurial enterprise, web/social network and hospitality arenas. Tawnya says working at SentryWorld is a dream come true, mixing her passion for people, service and hospitality with a beautiful facility and an exceptional team.
Brian Dumler, PGA
PGA Golf Professional, Teaching & Development
Brian served as SentryWorld’s head golf professional since 1996 prior to transitioning to his new role as PGA golf professional of teaching and development in 2015. Before relocating to Stevens Point in 1988, Brian worked at golf facilities in Arizona, Colorado, Florida and Illinois. Brian has extensive experience working at daily fee and destination golf courses and enjoys meeting and teaching golfers of all ages and skill levels. Brian has been honored multiple times by both Golf Digest and Golf Magazine as one of the top golf instructors in Wisconsin and has also been recognized by the Wisconsin PGA with several awards including WPGA Professional of the Year in 2002. Under Brian’s direction, SentryWorld was honored as Course of the Year in 2007 and 2009 by the Golf Course Owners of Wisconsin.
LPGA Golf Professional
Katie has been the LPGA golf professional at SentryWorld since 2012. Originally from Wausau, she is a member of the LPGA and is working toward her Class A teaching certification. Katie played NCAA Division I college golf at Illinois State University and was a three-year team captain and all-conference performer. She is very active with promoting and teaching the game of golf to women, men and children of all ages and skill levels. She finds the most rewarding part of her role at SentryWorld to be helping golfers achieve their goals and seeing her students’ excitement and progress as they improve their games.
Golf Course Superintendent
Gary began his career at SentryWorld prior to its opening in 1982, working as the irrigation specialist throughout construction and grow-in. After a few years, he transitioned to the role of superintendent under the guidance of then superintendent Bill Roberts. With more than 30 years experience, Gary brings extensive knowledge of SentryWorld’s course and has continued his education through extensive training with the GCSAA to pass certification and earn the professional designation of an estimated only 2,000 certified golf course superintendents nationwide. He is currently a Class A member of the GCSAA and WGCSA, along with affiliations/memberships with WTA, NGLGCSA and ACS. Gary maintains 150 hours of continuing education with GCSAA annually while providing SentryWorld with the best playing conditions possible and is committed to keeping SentryWorld recognized as one of the top courses in the state, as well as the nation.
