STEVENS POINT, WI, May 10, 2011 -- Now open to the public for its 29th season, the SentryWorld golf course is ranked 7th among all Wisconsin golf courses according to Golf Digest magazine's ranking for 2011-2012.
An independent panel of over 1,000 men and women golfers evaluated the courses for Golf Digest and based their ratings on criteria including shot values, degree of difficulty, design and aesthetics.
SentryWorld Head Golf Professional Brian Dumler said Golf Digest’s ranking is an honor because there are more than 600 golf courses in the state. He said he is also pleased that SentryWorld’s ranking has moved up two places from last year.
“SentryWorld is a beautiful and challenging course and our grounds crew does a tremendous job keeping the course in top condition,” Dumler said.
Golf architect Robert Trent Jones II designed SentryWorld in 1982. The par 72 course is 6,951 yards surrounded by 200 acres of rolling hills, sand bunkers, green pines and white birch. The course features five different tees for each hole, allowing golfers to choose the level of difficulty of their game.
SentryWorld's signature hole is the distinctive 173-yard, par 3, No. 16 "Flower Hole." The green is an island surrounded with flowerbeds containing over 45,000 flowers.
In addition to the championship 18-hole course, SentryWorld’s golf facilities include driving ranges, putting greens, chipping and sand areas, as well as a pro shop and restaurant. Six indoor tennis courts are also available.
